Unexpected Stamping on a Neon Watermarble!

    Hi guys,

Two posts in one day you ask? Well I do have a lot of catching up to do 😀 This is going to be a looong post with the neon watermarble first, a review of sorts for the Born Pretty Store 6 piece watermarble tool/ dotting tool all in one and followed up with some winter themed nail art (hint!). You’re welcome to skip all the text and just get right to the pictures if you like!

I was inspired to do a watermarble with these specific colours by a post I saw on my good friend Parul’s (Precious Pearl Makeup) instagram account – here.

Here’s a look at the watermarble I was talking about:

    Part 1 : The watermarble!

    WM_Glossy_Shade_1

This is literally only the second time that I’ve attempted a watermarble so be kind! I was going for that floral petal pattern and I think I’ve somewhat achieved that to some reasonable degree.

    Here’s what I used:

    The Basics :

    Basecoat_Topcoat_Tools

    Basecoat –  Orly Bonder

Sally Hansen – White On to make a white base for my watermarble

Liquid Latex for easy cleanup with everything! (watermarble to stamping)

Glisten & Glow – HK Girl Top Coat

6 pc Nail Art dotting tool/ watermarbeling tool from BornPrettyStore : I was really curious about this tool so picked it up with my own money. Here’s a closer look at the tool and a mini review!

    Part 2 : The review!

Mini review of the Born Pretty Store 6 p.c. Nail Art Dotting Tool / Watermarble tool :

    BPS_Dotting_Tool

So this is a new offering from Born Pretty Store and promises to be an all in one! The product listing says it’s a 6 piece set, but as 2 are already attached to the tool itself, you actually get 8 nibs of different sizes from the largest to the smallest.

The smallest pin is what is being marketed as a watermarble tool. To be honest, I was a little disappointed that it had a tiny pinhead and not a complete pointy end similar to the pure colour watermarble tool. Though this doesn’t seem to affect the actual watermarble as much as I thought it would. You do need to clean the tips after every single drag which can be annoying. This is because polish builds up around that tiny tip and it can lead to a mess if it’s not cleaned. On the other hand, this is true of any tool you use for your watermarble, so it’s not something that’s unique to this tool as such.

Now, if you look at the rest of the fitments, I’m really impressed. It has dotting tool heads of all possible sizes and everything can be accommodated inside the barrel of this tool. It’s very neat and everything is very compact. If I’m going to travel, all I’ll ever need for most kinds of nail art is this tool.

It’s made from good quality materials and all the different pieces fit perfectly. It’s not very finicky to use and it really would’ve been perfect in my book if BPS had only given it a proper needle tip for the watermarble tool. So on the whole I’d give this a 4 out of 5 🙂

You can purchase this tool here, and use my code NPPQ10 to take 10% off on this and any other full priced items on BornPrettyStore!

Now, back to the watermarble itself. All polishes used by me are from NewU. As you may know if you follow me on instagram, these marble like a dream! They’re also very pocket friendly so you don’t need to feel guilty about dropping polish in water! Here are the colours I used:

    Polishes_Used_Neon_WM

    No. 96 -French Blue

    No. 94 -Carmine Pink

No. 95 – Green Apple ( more chartreuse I should say)

    No. 119 -Grapefruit

No. 122 -Burgandy Brown (clearly neither burgundy nor brown, but I don’t make the names ha ha! P.s.- Yes, I know it’s ‘Burgundy’, but it’s spelt Burgandy on the bottle)

    No. 114 – Mango Tango

    Procedure:

The process is quite simple , I applied white nail polish on my nails to make the neon(ish) colours pop. Then I generously coated everything with liquid latex. I seriously wish I could liquid latex everything on my table every time I have to do a watermarble as somehow polish always ends up where it shouldn’t! Then I dropped drops of polish one at a time to make a nice (somewhat) bullseye.

Then leaving the first two rings alone ( they will be dry by now) and starting from the third ring I used my tool to draw a line inwards to make the petal pattern. Then I chose an okay spot and dunked my finger in, waited a few seconds and used a cotton swab to clear up the leftover polish from around my nails. I did not remove the liquid latex barrier immediately. This is because the polish is still wet and you risk damaging the design itself. So I finished another nail and then removed the latex barrier from the earlier nail. I then used my clean up brush and acetone to deal with any stragglers left behind.

    This is the finished result:

    WM_Glossy_Shade_2

There’s still room for improvement I know, hopefully I’ll get there soon.

I also did a watermarble design on my right hand, and like before it turned out better on this one!

    WM_Glossy_Shade_3_Right_Hand

If only my index nail was not broken 🙁

Random closeup of my right hand thumb, looks sort of like an alien blood orange 😀 :

    WM_Glossy_Shade_Thumb_Closeup

    Part 3 : The design!

Moving on to the next part , I am participating in a couple of challenges on Instagram this month – one is a nail art competition by the stamping company HeHe plates and the other is the “Weekly Nail Art Challenge” (or #wnac2015) hosted by MissBellaTracey  (@missbellatracey on instagram), Lacquerstyle (@kgrdnr on instagram) and Simplynailogical. I decided to submit this next design for both prompts as there’s nothing in the rules anywhere saying I can’t 😀

I decided to go with a slightly unusual choice of design and stamped some snowflakes on my super bright watermarble. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d even like the end result, but surprisingly I do.

Here’s what I used to create the stamped design:

    Plates_Used

Black Stamping Polish – Nail Matinee brand – This is an indie brand from India and you can contact Nisha ( the creator) on Facebook

I did face some minor issues (polish was drying a little too fast) with this particular batch of polish, but I’ve been assured by Nisha that the current batch doesn’t have this issue.

Matte Topcoat – Inglot – I swear by this topcoat as it makes everything perfectly matte in one coat. No fiddling with multiple coats trying to matte your manicure. I bought this from the Inglot showroom in New Delhi so unfortunately I don’t have a link for it online.

    Konad White Stamping Polish

    XL Gold stamper from FabUrNails

Festive Plate 2 – MoYou London

I randomly picked out snowflakes in black and white stamping polish and placed them on my marbled nails. I then sealed it with glossy topcoat first and waited for everything to dry ( which hardly took any time as I’m a fast dry topcoat addict :D). Why glossy topcoat you ask? Well, matte topcoats (at least the one I have) drag the stamped design, make a mess and ruin your manicure. I have just painstakingly made a watermarbled design! No way am I going to risk making a mess!

Once dry, I added one coat of the matte topcoat to mattify my design. I have heard reviews of matte polish not lasting long but I must disagree. I’ve already had this design on my nail for a week and a half as I type and it’s still as fresh as the day I painted it!

    Glossy version first:

    WM_Glossy_Shade_Snowflakes_2

Looks good, but I feel like something is missing..

    And another glossy one:

    WM_Glossy_Shade_Snowflakes1

    Now for the matte magic:

    WM_Matte_Shade_Snowflakes_2

Woah! <3 I personally love the matte look! It’s as if the design became more alive somehow!

    Here’s more matteness:

    WM_Matte_Shade_Snowflakes_3

    WM_Matte_Shade_Snowflakes1

Random closeup of dwarf thumb on my left hand ( when will both hands have perfect length nails 🙁 )

    WM_Glossy_Shade_Snowflakes_Thumb_Closeup

Phew! That was a long post! Kudos if you’ve read this till the end!

What did you think? Matte or glossy? Like the snowflakes on such a crazy bright background? No? Why not? Let me know!

    See you next post!

  • Autumnal Stamping with F.U.N Lacquer ‘Burning Up’

Autumnal Stamping with F.U.N Lacquer ‘Burning Up’

    Hey guys,

I uploaded this design on my instagram account a week ago and then my internet connection went down 🙁 so this post is a week late. This is the first of a couple of designs I did for autumn this year. I used Fun Lacquer’s Burning Up as my base as it’s the perfect colour. It’s a multichrome that shifts through copper, orange, gold, pink and I daresay green at a certain angle! It’s basically autumn in a bottle and I reached for it instantly.

    Swatches of Burning Up :

Looks like a gorgeous wine coloured satiny beauty in the shade!

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Shade_Swatch_3

Some of that shift is visible in this one:

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Shade_Swatch_2

Sunlight swatch spam, slightly pink with orange highlights in the corners:

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Shade_Swatch_1

Looking more brownish orange in this one :

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Sun_Swatch_2

This last one was taken inside and captures the crazy orange shift I was talking about:

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Indoor_Swatch_1

As usual, I wanted to stamp an autumn appropriate design on this beautiful base, but I didn’t want the base to be completely obscured by the print , so I went with a simple double stamped leaf.

    Here’s what I used:

    Products_Used_FUN_Laquer_Burning_Up_Autumn

    Basecoat –  Orly Bonder

    F.U.N Lacquer – Burning Up

Liquid Latex for easy cleanup with stamping

    Konad Black Stamping polish

Maybelline Color Show – No. 008 Bold Gold

Glisten & Glow – HK Girl Top Coat

XL Gold stamper from FabUrNails (Not Pictured)

    Plate used:

    Plate_Used_HeHe_52

HeHe 52 from the HeHe brand

The process is pretty simple, I chose a leaf and stamped it in black. Then I picked up the same image in gold and stamped over the black with a partial overlap so the black leaf sort of looks like a shadow.

    Here’s the finished look:

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Shade_Leaves

    In sunlight:

    Fun_Lacquer_Burning_Up_Sun_Leaves

I leave you with this :

  • Fashion Friday – Adele in Jenny Packham for “Adele at the BBC”

Fashion Friday – Adele in Jenny Packham for “Adele at the BBC”

    Hey Guys,

I know it’s been ages since I last posted! I haven’t stopped doing nail art, just finding it difficult to keep up with regular posting. Good news is I have a nice pile of unposted designs to get crackin’ 🙂

Today is one of my first fashion inspired nail art looks. Adele is back after a long hiatus with a spankin’ new album and I’m super excited. Have had the album on loop since the time it dropped. I’m obviously a die hard fan! The minute I saw her dress from the “Adele at the BBC” event, I knew I wanted to recreate that on my nails! It’s from the Autumn-Winter 2015 Jenny Packham Collection.

Technically today is Saturday, but no one ever heard of Fashion Saturday, haha! Besides I posted these on Instagram yesterday,so I think it still counts 😀

There’s a pictorial too outlining the steps on how to achieve the look. Here’s the finished manicure :

    1.Adele_JP_Inspired_Matte_Sun_Collage

I mattified the design as I thought it went with the look of the dress.

The michele replica watches are known for their elegant designs and attention to detail, offering you a sophisticated style at a more accessible price.

Here’s what you need to create this mani :

    Adele_JP_Inspired_Products_Inspired_v1

    Basecoat –  Orly Bonder

    Revlon Parfumerie – Balsam Fir

Liquid Latex for easy cleanup with stamping

Chambor – No. 446. It’s a gold foil polish I got as a free gift so I don’t have a link for you!

F.U.N Lacquer – King ( King of bling that is!)

Glisten & Glow – HK Girl Top Coat

    Inglot – Matte Top Coat

Plate Used : Fairytale 5 from HeHe plates “Fairytale Collection”

    Adele_JP_Inspired_Plate_Used_v1

Stamper – New Jumbo stamper from FabUrNails ( psst…review coming soon)

    FabUrNails_Stamper

I also used the new sable double sided liner and striper brush from FabUrNails . I love the sparkly elements – the crystals, the reflective etching on the caps, excellent brush on the whole  :

    FabUrNails_NAB_Collage

Here’s a pictorial with all the steps :

    Adele_JP_Inspired_Consolidated_Tutorial

    Steps:

Step 1 : Start with 2 coats of Revlon Balsam Fir.
Step 2 : Apply Liquid Latex to protect your cuticles and make it easier to cleanup after stamping.
Step 3 : Apply a gold foil stamping polish like so. I used Chambor No. 446. Plate used : Fairytale 5 from ‪HeHe plates.‬
Step 4 through Step 6 : Pick up the image on your stamper and clean up the excess using scotch tape.
Step 7 : Stamp the design on the nail like so.
Step 8 : Use a thin detail brush and a flakie glitter polish and layer over the stamped design. I used F.U.N Lacquer King. It’s so crazy bling! It’s loaded with sterling silver flakies and gold micro holographic glitter AND spectraflair! It sparkles like no one’s business when mattified!
Step 9 : Add one coat of a quick dry glossy topcoat. I used my absolute favourite Glisten & Glow HKGirl topcoat.
Step 10 (Not Pictured) : Add one coat of matte topcoat to matte the design. I used Inglot matte topcoat.

Now let the blitz of pictures start, I have a ton of them to share as I simply couldn’t limit them to one or two. Here’s the matte version first :

    12.Adele_JP_Inspired_Matte_Sun_Dress_Collage

Taken outside in natural light :

    4.Adele_JP_Inspired_Matte_Shade_1

I recently picked up some cute midi rings from H&M India. Just couldn’t resist clicking a pic with them too!

    Taken outside in fading sunlight:

Now for the glossy look :

    Natural light:

    5.Adele_JP_Inspired_Glossy_Shade_1

    8.Adele_JP_Inspired_Glossy_Shade_2

A closer look at the foil effect flakie glitter bling that is King! I just had to dab on a tiny amount using the detail side from the 2 sided brush from FabUrNails. I think the bling really amped up the mani.

  • Aztec Tribal Stamping Decals with MoYou London Explorer 26

Aztec Tribal Stamping Decals with MoYou London Explorer 26

    Hello!

I had some time over the weekend so decided to get my hands dirty with stamping decals. I love stamping decals, they befuddle people 😀 Many times it has you wondering “How on earth did she do that?!”. Though I love them, I’m a little lazy when it comes to making the decals. These decals were originally intended for my mother. I went ahead and made extra and decided to use them.

Since I was making decals, I decided to make them as colourful as possible and settled on an Aztec/Tribal print from one of my MoYou plates – Explorer 26. This is probably my favourite collection out of all the ones that MoYou London has released! Such beautiful prints from all over the world!

Here’s all the polishes I used:

    Aztec_Tribal_Polishes_Used

BarryM – Elderberry & Almond , They ship to India vis UPS, Shipping is expensive yes, but when you’re a nail polish addict, it’s all part of your obsession 😀 , and you get your BarryM’s in 3 days flat! All the way from the UK, beat that!

OPI Is Mai Tai Crooked? & That’s Hula-rious from the Spring 2015 Hawaii Collection. I bought these when I was on holiday in Russia, so I’m putting links to Amazon here.

Innisfree Eco Basecoat and No.6 – the cheerful yellow that is nameless because Innisfree gives numbers, how sad 🙁 Both were purchased from the Innisfree store and so I don’t have an online link for you, sorry!

HK Girl Topcoat from Glisten & Glow purchased from www.color4nails.com

    Konad Black Stamping polish

I used 5 XL Gold stampers from FabUrNails. These are awesome to make decals on! The cap holder is sturdy and sits well.

Here’s a behind the scenes look:

    Jpeg

Here’s the steps I used to make my decals:

    1. Pick up the image on your stamper with black stamping polish.
    2. Use a dotting tool or a toothpick and all the colours you want, and fill colour in the individual details. You need not be very neat as the black stamping polish camouflages most of the overlaps.
    3. Wait for everything to dry and cover the entire decal with white polish. I did this so that the colours would pop more.
    4. Once the decal is dry, peel it off the stamper. How do you know if your decal is dry? Well, it shouldn’t stick to the stamping head and should ‘pop’ right off. If it’s pulling when you try to peel, it’s clearly not ready and you risk tearing your decal.
    5. Use a pair of nail scissors and cut the decal into a size that will fit on your nail leaving a little bit extra to wrap under the free edge of your nail. This sort of ‘caps’ the nail and makes your manicure last longer.
    6. Now apply polish on your nail and wait for it to be almost completely dry. When it’s very very lightly tacky, place your decal over your nail and press down gently to get it to stick to your nail. Press down gently or you’ll end up smudging your nail or tearing the decal or both.
    7. Wrap the tiny amount of extra decal under the free edge of your nail and smooth out by pressing or using the back of your nail art brush like a rolling pin.
    8. Apply topcoat and wait for it to dry. Once it’s dry, clean up the mess around your cuticles with a clean up brush and polish remover. That’s it!

    Here’s the finished result:

That’s part of my front yard in the background 🙂

  • A England Sleeping Palace Swatch & Review

A England Sleeping Palace Swatch & Review

    Hey everyone 🙂

This post has been a long time coming, I swatched A England Sleeping Palace a while back and am only now blogging about it.I got my first A England’s in April this year and am totally in love with them! The formula is flawless and almost all of them are one coaters! So, if you want a 5 minute manicure, A England is your best bet!

Sleeping Palace is no exception. It is completely opaque in a single coat. I used 2 cause I found it weird to stop with one coat, and I wanted to even out the nail surface 😀  The only different thing I found in this polish is that the consistency is a little thick and sort of like syrup.I initially thought that the polish was going bad or was from a bad batch. However, I have since read on a couple other blogs where this same thing was mentioned and that it was normal for this particular polish. None of my other A England’s have this peculiarity. Also, it’s been a while since I bought my polish and it’s as good as the day I first got it.

The colour on this one is fantastic! It is a deep aubergine and has a steely finish because of the holographic pigment. It looks lovely in the shade!

    Sleeping_Palace_Shade_1

It’s flattering on pretty much any skin tone and instantly transforms your nails into a thing of beauty !

In the sun, the holographic dimension shows itself and that’s when you fall in love even more! The holographic particles are subtle and lend an almost orange like glow, almost like there’s a fire glowing from within.

    Sleeping_Palace_Sun_2

Just to make it more evident, here are a couple of macros:

    Sleeping_Palace_Macro_2

    Sleeping_Palace_Sun_Macro

A little history on the polish now. As you may or may not know, A England collections are usually conceptualized around a piece of history close to the founder, Adina Bodana’s heart. This polish is from the “Burne-Jones Dream” collection – a set of polishes that narrate the story of sleeping beauty as conceived by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, a British artist associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. “Sleeping Palace” represents the slumbering palace that awaits the prince as he journeys to wake sleeping beauty. “An unnatural twilight has fallen upon the land” says the blurb for this polish on the official A England site and I couldn’t agree more!

I was so in love with this, that I was a little too camera happy and clicked away :

    Sleeping_Palace_Sun

I leave you with these last few pics taken both in the shade as well as in the sun:

    Sleeping_Palace_Shade_2

I bought my polish from www.color4nails.com cause A England’s official site doesn’t ship outside the UK anymore.

  • Textured Stamping : Stay Quirky “Legendary Bloom” & Uberchic 3.3

Textured Stamping : Stay Quirky “Legendary Bloom” & Uberchic 3.3

    Hey guys,

I have a polish from an upcoming Indian brand – Stay Quirky, today. This brand currently only sells through http://purplle.com/shop and the delivery is super fast! I got my polish 2 days after placing my order! They were running a huge 50% off introductory sale so I was fortunate to get my hands on a few colours for a bargain 😀 . There is still a limited 25% discount going on, so you can still get these at a discounted price.

Stay Quirky have a wide range of finishes and colour choices – textured, duochromes, satins, gel finish etc. . Each polish has a name and a number. Though for some reason, none of the bottles have the name mentioned anywhere. In some cases, even the number is only printed on the underside of the bottle along with the expiration date. This is a huge bummer for me as I am someone who remembers the name of a polish more than the number. I’ve said this of Innisfree polishes too, they only have a number instead of a name ( the names are sometimes printed in Korean, but seeing as I don’t know Korean, it’s pointless).A number seems so clinical and impersonal, whereas a name evokes an image in your mind. Ok, rant over! let’s get to the polish!

This one is No.825 Legendary Bloom. It’s from the “Jersey Effect” line of polishes, which are basically textured polishes. These textured polishes have sprinkles in complimentary colours and look really soft and feminine (soft despite being textured :D) on the nails. This one is a lovely pastel mint green with indigo and yellow sprinkles. Completely opaque in 2 simple coats, I didn’t need base or topcoat. It also dried fairly fast. No need to run around trying hard not to smudge your nails while doing a task.

    Here are some swatches:

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Swatch_Daylight_1

They look almost like a yoghurt smoothie/ice-cream on the nails!

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Swatch_Daylight_2

It’s been raining here, so the light is a little dimmer than what I’m used to. Here’s a closeup:

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Swatch_Daylight_3

This colour is so pretty on it’s own! I also liked the textured effect. It’s not too textured for me, it has the right amount of grittiness.

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Swatch_Daylight_4

I also did not use any basecoat or topcoat as it’s simply not required. Textured polishes hold well on nails without a basecoat and considering this is a light pastel, I’m not expecting any staining on my nails (which is the only reason you’d want a basecoat with a textured polish).

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Swatch_Daylight_5

I wanted to try a stamped design on these nails. I’ve done stamping on a textured base before and was really pleased with the result. So I broke out my Uber Chic Beauty plates. Here’s what I used:

    Products_Used_SQ_UC

Base Colour – No.825 Legendary Bloom from Stay Quirky

Stamping Plate – Plate 3 from Set 3. You can find it here.

    Stamping Polish – Konad Blue

Stamper – Gold XL Stamper & Scraper from FabUrNails.

Liquid Latex from Amazon for easy cleanup

Flatbrush from Claire’s Nailart Brush Kit for easy cleanup

All I did for this design was to apply the latex around my cuticles and then stamp the design. I didn’t need to use any topcoat at all. One of the simplest manicures I’ve ever done 🙂

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Stamping_Daylight_1

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Stamping_Daylight_2

    A closer look:

    From a different angle:

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Stamping_Angled

    SQ_Legendary_Bloom_Stamping_Daylight_5

    Macro time!

So what do you think? I’ve still got this design on my nails as I type and the stamped design is intact. No chipping at all!

  • Watermarble success with OPI Color Paints!

Watermarble success with OPI Color Paints!

    Hello!

This post has been pending for sometime now.I did these nails a while back and thought it was time I wrote a post about it already 😀 . Watermarble nails were something that I was convinced were beyond me.I had countless failures and was about to give up on them. Then I read somewhere about how the OPI color paints collection is perfect for watermarbles.

Anyway, one sunday evening, I thought I should give it a go and this was what I came up with:

    OPI_Color_Paints_Watermarble_Thumb_Bottleshot_v2

Needless to say that these are some of the easiest polishes to watermarble with! The polish is so well behaved, it stays fluid enough for you to drag your designs easily. It spreads really well over water and you don’t have to do anything at all! I created my designs over a white base and topped off with HK Girl topcoat.

Seeing as this is my first attempt, I tried a new design on every nail 🙂

Here are the results in natural light:

    Opi_ColorPaints_Watermarble_RightHand_2_v2

I used all the polishes from the Color Paints collection. I got these from ebay here.

    OPI_wm_shade_1_v2

As you can see, nothing matches, but I love it nonetheless!

    OPI_Color_Paints_Watermarble_All_v2

The colours are so bright! My camera is freaking out from all the brightness 😀 These colours together remind me of those fruit sundaes full of colourful syrups..

These are my favourites . I tried to recreate the flower on my other thumb, but ended up with something that looks like a cross between a peach and apple sauce:

    Inglot 367 & Inglot 302 Swatch & Review

    Hi guys,

I have a quick post today! I indulged in some random impulse shopping over the weekend and ended up buying two polishes from Inglot. I’ve been in love with their makeup for a while and needless to say, their polish bar is drool worthy 😀

I picked out a pinkish tinged taupe (no. 367) and another seemingly ordinary pink ( no. 302) which is actually a duochrome with a strong green flash. Here are some bottle shots :

Inglot_302_Brush_Porn_Sun_fin Just look at the green! Magical right!

    Inglot_302_Brush_Porn_Shade_fin

It’s really strong even in the shade!

I must say, it’s really awkward trying to click pictures of the brush with the bottle in one hand the camera in the other! I was trying to catch the last few rays of sunlight and had to hold the bottle at all angles 😀

The other taupe colour (no. 367)has a pink flash which is evident on the nail at a certain angle and was difficult to photograph. Here it is in the sun :

    Inglot_367_Bottle_Shot_Sun_fin

I have swatches of these on a single nail as I wanted to do a comparison. I really love taupe and pink and have a lot of polishes . the distinction being that these are all “similar” and not the same. As for the pink/green duochrome, I don’t have any in my stash that compares, so I’m really pleased with that one.

    Here’s a macro swatch of no. 367 :

    Inglot_367_closeup_fin

See how beautiful that pink flash is! It’s perfect for the office or a “grown up” brunch 🙂

The formula was really easy to work with! Opaque and creamy in two coats.Dried pretty fast too. No streaks or patches. The photo above is without topcoat, so as you can see, it’s really shiny!

Here’s a macro swatch of no. 302 on it’s own:

    Inglot_302_Sun_Swatch_fin

I seriously don’t think this polish is meant to be worn on it’s own. For one, it needs 4 coats to become as opaque as shown in this picture and there’s still some nail line that’s visible. I’m not a fan of those sheer polishes where you can see the nail line, I like using them as a base for some stamping to cover up the VNL ( Visible Nail Line).

One thing I need to mention is that even with 4 coats, it dried very fast and to a very shiny finish. The duochrome is not very apparent when you layer this polish like this. So I tried layering it over the taupe. Here are the results:

    Inglot_302_over_367_fin

It’s lovely! It’s transformed my pinky taupe into a magical pixieland taupe! I really love how these polishes look together. Also, no topcoat here either. The polish is naturally this shiny!

Here’s a look at the two versions side by side:

    Inglot_367_vs_302_on_367_fin

As I mentioned earlier, I was afraid that I may have gone and bought myself a dupe, so I decided to compare this to all the possible taupe/taupe-ish colours I already have. Here’s a comparison in the sun :

    Dupe_Check_Inglot_367_1_fin

While I was in the store, I was really convinced that this was a dupe for “Commander in Chic” from the Salon Manicure range by Sally Hansen. Later on I thought it also looked similar to “Plum’s the word” from the same Sally Hansen range. However, as you can see, there are no dupes here! Yay for me 🙂

Here’s what they look like in the shade:

    Dupe_Check_Inglot_367_2_fin

These polishes retail for INR 750 at Inglot stores across the country. The products were not provided for review, I paid for these myself. Inglot is a 5 free brand. This means their polish is free of 5 of the most harmful chemicals that may typically be found in polish –  Camphor ,  Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Toluene.

That’s it from me! Lemme know what you think below…

The Great Stamp Off ! Review – MoYou London Sticky XL Vs. Creative Shop Vs. FabUrNails Stamper

    Hi guys,

I know it’s been a while since I last posted. Have been occupied with other stuff and haven’t found the time to blog 🙁 , though I have been doing a lot of manicures and now have a bunch to post!

Warning: This is going to be a long rambling, picture heavy post. If you’re impatient, or are short on time, skip to the pictures and the final thoughts section!

Disclaimer: Everything was purchased with my own money. I was not paid to write this review and I’m not getting a commission if you guys do decide on buying any of the stampers reviewed here. All the views and rankings of the different stampers are based on my individual perception.

Alright, getting back to the post, today I will be reviewing a bunch of stampers used in nail stamping. When I got into nail stamping at the start of 2014, there were not a lot of options available to me, most sellers were unable to offer tracked shipping as it’s usually more expensive. In fact living in India, I did not want to take the risk of ordering from a website abroad only to have my package lost/stolen before it even reached me ( There’s a high level of uncertainty and tension involved with untracked parcels that I’m not comfortable with).

I remember scouring a ton of Blogs/Instagram Accounts and Facebook to find “the perfect stamper”. This is how I came across the incredible encyclopaedia that is Tamira from Lacquer Lockdown. She is my guru when it comes to anything nail stamping related!

I started off my stamping experiments with 2 stampers – the Konad double sided one purchased off Amazon and the MoYou London squishy stamper (that went out of circulation literally the second after I ordered ).Things were good, the stampers worked well, though there were a few hits and misses with my stamped designs. I blamed this on my relative inexperience.

Fast Forward to Jan 2015 and there was a new kid on the block – The Creative Shop Stamper. It was so huge and so squishy and so translucent and so different looking! Suddenly everyone wanted one! To make it seem like a truly “treasured” object, demand was high and supply was having trouble meeting the demand because these were made in Ukraine and there was no reliable way to pay the seller because PayPal was out due to political problems in the area. Group Buys on Facebook came to a screeching halt when someone didn’t follow the rules.

Anyway as it turns out, this feted stamper sorta had feet of clay. It was difficult to use, and there were a lot of mixed feelings. A few short weeks later the lovely indie plate maker Johanne from FabUrNails released her own version of the squishy stamper. Jump to July and MoYou London have also released a new jumbo squishy marshmallow stamper with two versions – a sticky and a non sticky one.

Is it any wonder that people are super confused? We’re now in the reverse situation compared to 2014. There’s too many options and more cropping up every second and everyone is spoiled for choice.

To bring some clarity to this situation, I thought it high time someone did a comparison of all these highly lauded magical harbingers of beautiful nails. That someone is me. So let’s get started!

Stampers that are reviewed in the great stamp off:

    1. Creative Shop Stamper. I got mine from Rainbow Connection UK for £8.

    2. MoYou London XL Squishy Marshmallow Stamper – Sticky Translucent  ( I bought the double set, it comes with 2 heads – £9.99)

    3. MoYou London XL Squishy Marshmallow Stamper -Sticky White

    4. FabUrNails XL Gold Stamper Set ($6.5)

    MoYou_vs_Creative_Shop_vs_FabUrNails

    Methodology:

    1. In order to judge the stamper fairly, I have tested it against plates from 3 different makers that are more or less ubiquitous.

    2. I have two polishes – one is a stamping polish specifically meant for stamping (Konad Black), and the other is a regular polish (NewU no. 86 Red Mistique) that is opaque enough for stamping.

    3. I will first showcase each individual stamper with the plate/polish combination. Then I will compare the stampers amongst each other for a single plate/polish combo.

    4. I assign a rank from 1 to 4 (1 being Best and 4 being the Worst) to each of the stampers for a single plate/polish combination. Each rank has points assigned to it in reverse order i.e. : Rank 1 has 4 points, Rank 2 has 3 points and so on.

5.The stamper with the most points wins the stamp off!

    Plates Used:

    1. Born Pretty Store – BP-44 . I think pretty much everyone who loves nail stamping has at least one born pretty store stamping plate.

    2. HeHe 19 –  A stamping plate from Ali Express (This is a dupe of the original HeHe plates). I bought this before the actual maker of HeHe plates made herself known to the world and started shipping  merchandise internationally. This company is most famous for their Harry Potter themed plates that you can get here.

Why did I choose a random plate from Ali Express?

Well, lots of girls buy plates from here as  a) they are dirt cheap , b) you get a nice variety of them and c)most of them are well etched. The problem is c). Since the etching is a hit or a miss, I thought it would be useful to compare how these stampers all work on a plate with questionable etching.

    3. MoYou London Rockstar 3 – I added a MoYou London plate as I was testing the new MoYou London XL Marshmallow Sticky Stamper for the first time. I didn’t bother with a FabUrNails plate in this trial as the etching of FabUrNails plates is excellent and on par with MoYou London.

    1.Plate_Collage

    First Up, Creative Shop Stamper

As mentioned earlier, this stamper went viral when it was launched. It was supposedly the squishiest and the best stamper there ever was.

However, over time, a few negative reviews came out about how it was difficult to use this stamper. The irony here is that this stamper became very popular because of it’s size and then also became unpopular because of it’s size.

It’s quite expensive at £8 (It retails for $8 in the USA and I’ve seen it listed at €8 on European websites). Looks like the number is the same, the currency is the only thing changing! So depending on where you live, you can get it for cheaper depending on what currency you use.

    The Good’s :

    1. It is a very squishy stamper.

    2. Made of a translucent material so that even white stamping polish is easy to distinguish .(This was a very new feature at the time of its release)

    3. It’s large enough to make decals for more than one nail in one go/stamp on more than one nail at the same time.

    4. It’s soft enough for those with a very pronounced ‘C’ curve to press the nail into the stamper.

    5. Very unique design. Kinda appealing to people who have a tendency to collect things. (Not a real advantage, I know, but it’s one of the reasons I don’t hate it as much as others do)

    The Bad’s:

    1. The holder of the stamper is very slippery. People find it hard to get a grip.I personally don’t, but I’ve heard enough complaints.

    2. The image pickup is not perfect. The stamper tends to have a large number of bald spots. This is because of the shape it assumes when it is in the holder. The stamper edges must be inserted to form a dome shape. That way, the number of bald spots will reduce and the pickup becomes better. For more info on the dome shape and how to achieve it, please head on over to Cassis P’s 2 blog posts here and here.

    3. Who has the time to fiddle around so much getting that dome shape?!

    4. Even after getting the dome shape, it tends to fail. 🙁

    5. It may also require some priming despite claims that it works well without needing priming.

Let’s check out how it performed :

    2.BPS_Hehe_Bottle_Plate_Creative_Stamper_Collage_WM

A closer look at the stamped designs:

    3.BPS_Hehe_Creative_Stamper_Collage_WM

I used a rolling motion to pickup all the images. As you can see, the pickup on the BPS images seem fine. The images from the HeHe plates appear to have a lot of bald spots. As I mentioned earlier, this plate is a dupe and I have my doubts as to the quality of the etching. Even so, the bald spots are bothersome.

You can’t quite say with certainty that the pickup was ‘crisp’ and sharply defined with any of the images above.

Let’s see how it worked with the MoYou Plates:

    4.MoYou_Rockstar3_Creative_Stamper_Collage_WM

As you can see, even though I have used stamping polish, the headphone image is somehow very very faded. It has not picked up a crisp and dark image the way you expect it to.

There are bald spots in the discs in the image below as well. There is no problem here with the depth of the colour, but the image pickup  itself is definitely poor quality.

On the whole a very average stamper at best and considering how much it cost, a huge disappointment!

Contender No. 2 – MoYou London XL Squishy Marshmallow Stamper – Sticky

Now, these are new in the market. They were launched just a few weeks back and there are 2 versions available – a sticky and a non sticky one. The sticky one is supposedly for novices and makes nail stamping easier (Is what the makers claim).

Each type of stamper comes with two heads -one translucent like the Creative Shop stamper, and an opaque white one. Now the level of stickiness and squishiness (if that is even a word) of both the stampers is different.

The translucent one is slightly less sticky and less squishy than the white one. the surface of both the stampers appears greasy when you take it out of the plastic bag in which it comes.

The white one is sticky to the point of getting easily stuck on glass and plastic surfaces. You can turn the surface upside down and the stamper will remain stuck- that’s how sticky this one is. It also attracts dust like bees to honey. When this happens, you can safely wash it with soap and cold water- that will take care of all the dust sticking to the stamper. I’ve tried using a lint roller and scotch tape, the stamper is stickier, so the dust doesn’t come off. Also, please do not use moisturising body soaps, these are enriched with oils that will interfere with your stamper’s pickup.

    The Good’s:

    1. Sticky stamper. Requires NO priming.Works well straight out of the bag.

    2. Kit comes with 2 heads to suit your need. Cost of the kit is ~ £10. Basically you’re getting two stampers and one holder for £2 more than if you’d bought the Creative Shop stamper. That’s a pretty good cost advantage.

    3. Individual stampers are also available for £6 to suit your pocket.

    The Bad’s :

    1. These are delicate darlings. No rough use tolerated. Even the slightest pinch with your nails will potentially tear them.

    2. The white one is SO sticky that it’s like a dust magnet! So please store these in a plastic box.

    3. A little tricky to get the right knack for using them.

I tried rolling the stamper, but the image pickup was poor. I tried pressing it hard but that also didn’t give me the result I was looking for. Then I tried rolling the stamper and also pressing it very lightly on the plate and I got the results shown below.

Let’s see the results with BPS and HeHe plates:

    8.BPS_HeHe_Bottle_Plate_MYL_ST_Stamper_Collage_WM

    A closer look:

    9.BPS_Hehe_MYL_ST_Stamper_Collage_WM

As you can see, the number of bald spots on the images from the HeHe plate are very few.

The lace image from the BPS plate has a very good pickup- crisp and dark and the other floral lattice image has also picked up very well.

Here’s how it worked with MoYou plates:

    10.MoYou_Rockstar_3_MYL_ST_Stamper_Collage_WM

So here, the headphone image is better than the Creative shop one, but can still be crisper. The disc image is good, one odd bald spot, and I think that’s purely because of how I picked up the image. I’m not trying to make an excuse for the stamper, it’s just that I only just got it and need some time to get my technique right.

Contender No. 3 – MoYou London XL Squishy Marshmallow Stamper -Sticky White

This is by far the stickiest and squishiest stamper of the lot. It is a true marshmallow as far as I’m concerned. It makes that weird sucking noise when you lift it off the plate after picking up an image.

It is also a tad greasy when it arrives in the bag. However, I’ve found that washing it with mild non-moisturising soap gets rid of the excess grease and does not hamper its performance. Also, if you choose to wash it, please let it air dry. If you wipe it with a paper towel, an actual towel or a t-shirt,these will all leave behind a generous helping of lint.

This one needs careful handling, if it gets stuck on the glass top of the table, gently pry it off bit by bit. Do not hold the “belly” of the stamper and pull, you will seriously risk tearing the stamper. This is also why I store it in a box of it’s own and not with my other stampers as it can stick to another stamper and then separating them may not be possible without tearing off a bit of this stamper.

Having said all that, does it actually make stamping easy? Let’s see.

    The Good’s:

    1. Super soft, squishy, a true marshmallow.

    2. Very very sticky surface that remains sticky even after washing with soap.

    The Bad’s:

    1. Delicate.

    2. Needs a modification in picking up images.

What I mean by modification is this – Simply rolling the stamper may not give you the best result. Also pressing down hard also does not give you a good result.

After some trial and error, I’ve figured out that this stamper is very very sensitive to pressure. You need to use a very light touch and press down extremely gently and then roll  it to pick up an image properly. Think of it like giving a very gentle kiss to the stamping plate with the stamper and then slowly pulling away and letting the natural stickiness of the stamper do it’s part in lifting the image ( ha ha, I know , but this is the best description I could think of). So, feather-touch pressure is enough to pickup the image. In that respect, I understand why MoYou called it “easier” to use than other stampers.

Enough Talk, Here’s a dekko at the result :

    11.BPS_Hehe_Bottle_Plate_MYL_SW_Stamper_Collage_WM_fin

    A closer look:

    12.BPS_Hehe_MYL_SW_Stamper_Collage_WM_fin

As you can see, the bald spots in the black HeHe image has lesser bald spots. The lace image could do with better image pickup. Once again, I think this is an issue with the way I’ve picked up the image and not specifically with the stamper itself. The red floral lattice has picked up beautifully.

I tried out an extra image with this stamper just to get a hang of the technique, here are the results:

    14.MoYou_London_SW_Stamper_HeHe_Red_Ind_Extra_WM

I’m quite happy with how this image has transferred. As I’ve mentioned above, the etching on this plate is not very good so there are going to be bald spots in the image regardless of what stamper you use. So, getting the above result despite that is good in my books.

    Using MoYou plates:

    13.MoYou_Rockstar3_MYL_SW_Stamper_Collage_WM_fin

I do believe that headphone image is perfect! Crisp and dark as it should be. The disc image seems to have one or two bald spots, though not so much so that the image looks crappy.

I was very skeptical of this stamper when I first opened it. It seemed to be too gooey and sticky to actually work. However, I’ve revised my opinion since then and am quite satisfied with it’s performance.

Final Contender : FabUrNails XL Gold Stamper Set

These have been a long time favourite of mine, I have around 6 of them for making decals and what not. They work exceedingly well. You do not need any tricks to lift the images whatsoever.

    The Good’s:

    1. Great image pickup, crisp and neat.

    2. Available in a variety of colours to suit everyone’s need.

    3. No Need to employ any special methods to pickup the image. You can pickup the images either by pressing down or rolling down. Both methods work.

    4. The cap holder is very good. It has some corrugations (basically a wave like pattern on the holder) that makes it easy to hold. This is also very useful for making decals as the stamper can stand upright.

    The Bad’s:

1.Not sure I’ve found any as such. If you want to nitpick , a few of these stamp well without priming and a few require priming,

    Let’s check them out :

    5.BPS_Hehe_Bottle_Plate_FabUrNails_Stamper_Collage_WM

A closer look at the stamped images :

    6.BPS_Hehe_FabUrNails_Stamper_Collage_WM

This is what I’m talking about. Look at the drastic reduction in the bald spots! And every single image is crisp and perfect!

Here’s how they worked with MoYou plates:

    7.MoYou_Rockstar3_FabUrNails_Stamper_Collage_WM

I’m in love with them all over again! Look at how dark and crisp the images are, an absolute treat to work. I’d highly recommend these stampers.

Comparison of all the 4 stampers:

Let’s compare all the 4 different stampers alongside to get a better and clearer comparison. My criteria for ranking is as follows:

    1. How crisp is the image? Does it have many bald spots?

    2. How dark is the transferred image?

First up, BPS Plates with red stamping :

    16.All_4_BPS_Red_Collage_WM

The MoYou sticky white and the FabUrNails stamper are on par with this one- nice and crisp image. The Creative shop stamper comes in second with a few bald spots and in last place is the MoYou sticky translucent stamper.

Next up – BPS plates with black stamping:

    15.All_4_BPS_Black_Collage_WM

FabUrNails is the winner here by a very small margin. The image using the MoYou sticky translucent one has a few almost microscopic bald spots that puts it in second place. The Creative shop and MoYou sticky white stamper have almost the same number of bald spots to tie them in third place.

Next, HeHe plates with red stamping:

    18.All_4_HeHe_Red_Collage_WM

I think the results are pretty self explanatory at this point I guess. The image design is really good in the FabUrNails one, this is really impressive because of the bad etching in the plate. The Creative shop stamper has also performed well here – the image is quite usable. The MoYou stampers have not picked up the image well at all. Quite a poor pickup.

HeHe plates with black stamping :

    17.All_4_HeHe_Black_Collage_WM

The image in the FabUrNails stamper is so good! The bald spots are few and far between. Both the MoYou stampers are at the same level when it comes to bald spots while the Creative shop stamper is in the last place. The darkness and sharpness of images on all the stampers is at the same level, only the number of bald spots are different.

MoYou plates with black stamping :

    19.All_4_MoYou_London_Rockstar3_Black2_Collage_WM

The best pickup is undoubtedly the FabUrNails stamper. The MoYou stampers are in second and third place by a very small margin. I’m confident that I can get a better image on both of them with some practice. I have been using the FabUrNails stampers for the last 6 months after all. Creative shop, sadly is in last place.

    20.All_4_MoYou_London_Rockstar3_Collage_Black_WM

Looks like I got my technique right this time, cause the MoYou and the FabUrNails stampers are tied in first place! The Creative shop stamper image is not unusable, though considering that there are other better alternatives out there, it’s in third place.

I made a chart to add up the points for each stamper:

    21.Final_Ranking[1]

There you have it, FabUrNails XL Stamper is the winner of this stamp off! The MoYou stampers have occupied the second and third place, though I’m confident that I can get them to work just as well as the FabUrNails one. Creative shop sadly was a little better than average :(.

Thank you for sticking till the end, I know this is a mammoth post, there were just so many things I wanted to say!

    See you next post!

Illusion Stamping Nail Art with MoYou London Illusion 5

    Hello!

Today I’ve got one of the new MoYou London Illusion Plates! The stamping world has gone crazy with most recent releases featuring illusion prints of one form or the other. MoYou London jumped on the bandwagon a little late ( Hello B Loves Plates!) but they’ve come out with spanking irresistable designs!

Anyway, as usual, here’s the plate:

    MoYou_London_Illusion_5

This is plate number 5 from the Illusion Collection.

I love everything about this plate, right from the swirly eye-boggling designs to the Pin Up girl – Elle.

Here’s the stuff I used for my design:

    Blue_Illusion_Products_Used

    Basecoat –  Orly Bonder

Glisten & Glow – HK Girl Top Coat

So Lacque Glossy Nail Enamel from Bourjois – 06 Adora-Bleu

White Stamping Polish – Konad White

Liquid Latex for easy cleanup with stamping

    FabUrNails XL gold stamper set

A.S.P Manicure Saver Cotton Claw for cleaning the stamping plate

    Procedure:

    1. Start off with basecoat and paint two thin coats of the blue polish ( Adora-Bleu).

    2. Apply two thin coats of liquid latex around your cuticles. This is to protect your skin from the polish while stamping and makes it much easier to clean up. I use two coats because the latex film becomes thick enough to pull off in one clean sweep. One thin coat tends to tear halfway around the nail. This dries super fast (<1 min) so don’t dawdle while painting it on your skin.

    3. Using the white stamping polish, pick up the pattern and stamp on the nail. Once you’ve stamped all the nails, use tweezers to pull of the latex barrier.

    4. Some minor cleanup can be done with a flat brush.

    5. Topcoat to seal your design. That’s it!

    The finished look:

    Blue_Illusion_Swirls_Shade_2

In the sun. The colour looks a little bleached cause it was so bright when I clicked these!

    Here’s a macro :

    Blue_Illusion_Swirls_Macro

That’s it for this post! What did you think of this design? I’m tempted to try something with holographic polish next.
